Quality connects: epimedical Switzerland and the Thai Cosmo Group found a joint venture for Asia

Baden/Bangkok, 16 August 2016.
What belongs together shall now grow together. Swiss implant manufacturer epimedical and the Thai Cosmo Group will in future provide Asian clinics and hospitals with high-quality medical products “made in Switzerland” under the joint company epimedical Asia Ltd. This cooperation was sealed on 9 August 2016 with the contract signature ceremony at the Swiss Embassy in Bangkok. Setting up the distribution is just the beginning. The aim of the joint venture is to build up medical competence and expertise in the Kingdom of Thailand by founding the Swiss-Thai Medical Academy, driving forward specialist intercultural exchanges and enable the local manufacturing of high-tech medical solutions for orthopaedic surgeries and traumatology.

epimedical Switzerland AG, with its head office in Baden, Switzerland, has opened representations in the Middle East and Latin America in recent years. Demand for high-quality implants that were designed especially for large bones and the associated instruments is growing constantly. Therefore, entering the Asian market is the next logical step for founder and CEO Vincenzo Carrieri. Carrieri is convinced that Cosmo Group Public Company Ltd. is an excellent partner who is just as committed to the high quality requirements as epimedical: “Uncompromising quality is essential for the healing process of our patients. With Cosmo Group we found the partner of our choice, as Cosmo has over 50 years of experience with the high quality standards that we represent in Switzerland. The owner family and the highly motivated employees share the same understanding and dedication on quality as epimedical, because it is an integral part of the culture of both companies.” Chief Executive Officer Carrieri sees the success of epimedical products based on the long tradition in Switzerland for high sensitive and refined materials, like the watch making. He also recognizes the existing common understanding as an essential basis for the successful cooperation between the two companies.

Cosmo Group Public Company, founded by Chairod Mahadumrongkul in 1964, looks back at a success story of more than five decades: As a strategic partner for globally leading and renowned premium segment brands and companies, the company in the Kingdom of Thailand has made a name for itself with the manufacturing of high-quality products and employs more than 5,000 people from different disciplines. The family-run company has also developed wide-ranging competences in the medical technology industry and is now developing customized prostheses and implants for orthopaedic use. For Naruepon Techawatanawana, President and CEO of the Cosmo Group, the foundation of epimedical Asia Ltd. is the starting point for a local research-oriented development and production site: “The cooperation with epimedical offers access to experts in the medical technology field. The knowledge of our Swiss colleagues is in my opinion essential for building up local research and development competences and realize a joint production site in the Kingdom of Thailand.” The plans for the near future demonstrate that Techawatanawana and Carrieri are serious about knowledge transfer: epimedical Asia Ltd. will set up its own academy to train medical specialists. “Our entire value chain is characterized by high quality standards. We have the same expectations, when training local specialists and experts,” highlights Vincenzo Carrieri. Now he is looking very much forward to realize these high goals jointly with Techawatanawana and the epimedical Asia Ltd. joint venture.
